My Artwork and creative musings...
Nearly all of this work (with the exception of most of the crow drawings) has been done by me, from October 1st 2020 on an iPad using Procreate app and Art Set 4. I started drawing in lockdown, for Inktober, to help me overcome my long-standing MHI, which include OCD, anxiety and depression.
Whilst I am a trained artist, I hadn't really done any art for many years as my work as a teacher & consultant was too demanding. I have always been fascinated by complex, precision drawing so this foray into anatomy was a no-brainer. I was drawn into it through my professional work linking art and science and Professor Alice Roberts was a huge influence. I think I saw what she did, that this incredible machine we are blessed with is such a fantastic source of artistic and scientific inspiration. I love the shapes and forms, their function and the organic beauty of them.
My anatomy drawing has taken on several themes: interpreting anatomy through classical sculpture, diagrammatic explanation of functions and anatomical portraiture. I have drawn the human body since I was 16 but I have no anatomical knowledge or training in anatomical art. All of my sources come from photographs of dissections from anatomical atlas's. I was lucky enough to be invited into a second year medical student dissection class at Newcastle University and I hope to return after lockdown.
I do hope you enjoy my work. Please drop by on Twitter @paulcarneyarts to say hello.
