Consultancy Services
Paul offers both a remote school CPD provision via Zoom, or a face-to-face in-person service. Please email for details.
In the Primary phase, I offer four types of friendly, professional consultancy services:
-
Whole school staff CPD training sessions as either full day CPD, Twilights or afternoons/mornings on a huge range of topics from art skills, drawing, painting, printmaking, craft, sculpture, digital, simple assessment, progression etc.
-
I can visit your school and do an audit of the art provision you currently offer. This involves looking through SOW and plans, studying the kind of art you teach, how often, what materials you have (and don't have), what expertise there is in the school, and how art is organised and delivered in general. Then we might look at staff training to see what is needed and how that might best be delivered. Usually, my visits can last anything between a day and three days or more, depending on what you feel you want me to do.
-
The art audit might also extend to working one-to-one with art leads to improve their confidence and subject knowledge, or even working directly with each year's group teacher.
-
I can plan your art curriculum for you linked to the topics you usually teach. I don't even have to visit the school for this, just email me and we can discuss what you want.

At the Secondary Phase If you're worried about your GCSE exam results and need to give your art department a boost, then why not get an outside opinion from someone who successfully managed a large art department in a Specialist School for the Arts, who achieved and 85%-90% pass rate in a very deprived area, is an NSEAD registered consultant and NSEAD Council member?
I usually work with schools to do a diagnostic health check of the department, look at the leadership and management of the department, planning, and organisation of resources, focus on assessment and progression and how motivated students are to learn, identify relevant issues the department may have such as improving exam performance, inclusivity, and raising achievement. All of this is done in a professional, supportive framework, designed to bring out the strengths of the staff involved so that they feel positive about their role and personal development. I can also look at curriculum planning, and deliver specialist CPD during or after school hours.
Secondary Art Department Audit
Thank you very much for your report Paul. From my point of view can I offer my particular thanks for the quality of the report- I feel it gets perfectly to the heart of the issue whilst stressing the aim of working with the department rather than doing things to them. Most importantly for me, the report gives clear and concise steps for improvement without ever losing its sense of dealing with real human beings. Thanks for all your hard work, professionalism and expertise.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your course yesterday in London. It’s given me lots to think about and am still buzzing with ideas even though I’ve been back at school for a whole day. One of the best things about yesterday was the fact that as well as making us think about new approaches to the way we teach Art, you also gave us the practical tools to deliver the goods. The things you discussed with us really resonated with me and I can already see how we can change a few things that we do in the Art Dept to achieve more creative thinking in the kids.
