I have delivered extensive art training to Primary Teachers in a range of areas such as drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture and crafts, as well as art assessment and progression. I am fully cleared to work in schools and hold a current Disclosure and Barring Certificate as well as having Public Liability Insurance. I can usually visit your school for the price of sending staff on a CPD course! Email me

Consultancy Services

At the Primary phase, I offer FOUR types of friendly, professional consultancy service:

  1. Whole school staff CPD training sessions as either full day CPD, Twilights or afternoons/mornings on a huge range of topics from art skills, drawing, painting, printmaking, craft, sculpture, digital, simple assessment, progression etc.

  2. I can visit your school and do an audit of the art provision you currently offer. This involves looking through SOW and plans, studying the kind of art you teach, how often, what materials you have (and don't have), what expertise there is in the school and how art is organised and delivered in general. Then we might look at staff training to see what is needed and how that might best be delivered. Usually my visits can last anything between a day and three days or more, depending on what you feel you want me to do.

  3. I can plan your art curriculum for you linked to the topics you usually teach. I don't even have to visit the school for this, just email me and we can discuss what you want.

  4. I can do practical workshops with pupils in the classroom, having worked on whole school art days such as Microbes, Lumiere Festival, Urban Jungle, Diversity and lots more.

At the Secondary Phase If you're worried about your GCSE exam results and need to give your art department a boost, then why not get an outside opinion from someone who successfully managed a large art department in a Specialist School for the Arts, who acheived and 85%-90% pass rate in a very deprived area, is an NSEAD registered consultant and NSEAD Council member?

I usually work with schools to do a diagnostic health check of the department, look at leadership and management of the department, planning and organisation of resources, focussing on assessment and progression and how motivated students are to learn, identifying relevant issues the department may have such as improving exam performance, inclusivity, and raising achievement. All of this is done in a professional, supportive framework, designed to bring out the strengths of the staff involved so that they feel positive about their role and personal development. I can also look at curriculum planning, deliver specialist CPD during or after school hours.

Thank you very much for your report Paul. From my point of view can I offer my particular thanks for the quality of the report- I feel it gets perfectly to the heart of the issue whilst stressing the aim of working with the department rather than doing things to them. Most importantly for me, the report gives clear and concise steps for improvement without ever losing its sense of dealing with real human beings. Thanks for all your hard work, professionalism and expertise.

It was a joy to attend your drawing and painting session yesterday Paul. I had such a fabulous day." Alison Robertson, Junior Kings School, Canterbury

"Best CPD we've done in twelve years!" Richard Avenue Primary

"What a fantastic CPD day!" Sue Ward Headteacher, Newton Burgoland

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your course yesterday in London. It’s given me lots to think about and am still buzzing with ideas even though I’ve been back at school for a whole day. One of the best things about yesterday was the fact that as well as making us think about new approaches to the way we teach Art, you also gave us the practical tools to deliver the goods. The things you discussed with us really resonated with me and I can already see how we can change a few things that we do in the Art Dept to achieve more creative thinking in the kids.

Hi Paul, Thanks so much for your session yesterday, it was informative and inspiring! It was really interesting to see the new curriculum and have it explained by someone who understands the needs of the teacher as well as the pupils.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the course I attended yesterday, I have only been in teaching four years and the day really helped me to reconsider how I use assessment in my teaching. Thanks again.
