Sculpture in the Primary phase

Sculpture in the Primary phase

Sculpture is such a specialist area of art and design that covers so many disciplines, skills and techniques. Even experienced teachers need support and guidance when planning and delivering sculpture from Reception to Year 6. This recorded CPD painting skills session allows you to access the training as a whole school CPD session or in your own time, on your own terms. Then again, why not do both? Watch the training as many times as you like, wherever you want.   This training session is over one hour long and contains guidance on teaching both substantive practical and theoretical knowledge and disciplinary knowledge in sculpture. You’ll learn what sculpture is, what the different types of sculpture are, what materials to use, sculpture skills & techniques and the formal elements of sculpture too. Tons of ideas: The session is packed with detailed breakdowns of each sculpture type and contains tons of ideas on how to teach each one. There are paper and card crafts ideas, textiles, wire, and withies projects to do. It has modelling ideas such as how to use clay, play-doh, paper mache, and casting, as well as types of removal sculpture and assemblage, such as making junk models, land art, and much more! Skills & Techniques: skills and techniques are fully explained in detail for each educational phase. Artist links: the video contains lots of theoretical knowledge and links to significant artists you can use at every stage of your teaching. You’ll come away with so much more confidence in understanding the disciplinary knowledge of what sculpture is, how it has evolved and who the significant sculptors are. Progression; the session contains a detailed breakdown of the sculpture knowledge and skills you could teach in KS1, LKS2, and UKS2. It explains how each of the sculptural areas relates to the knowledge and skills you’ll be teaching and outlines some great ways they could link to curriculum topics in other subject areas. Three full sculpture tutorials: the CPD also contains three full video sculpture tutorials; making a paper sculpture, making a wire fish, and making a clay slab architectural feature. What’s great is that you can watch the CPD on your terms, as an individual or as a whole school, as many times as you like. To purchase access to the video training you'll need to signup for site membership first. Once your email has been verified you can purchase access to the full session. Once you've purchased the video you'll be able to log back in whenever you wish for repeated access.

Drawing for Science, Invention & Discovery: Even if you can’t draw

About This Book

This book is aimed at all the scientists, mathematicians, engineers, pioneers and thinkers out there who understand the value of creative thinking in their field. It identifies some of the key cognitive processes that drive innovation, invention and discovery. They are compared and then illustrated, the cognitive processes behind them explained, or exercises provided so that you might improve these skills in yourself or your students.

Nine processes are discussed from both a STEM and an art perspective: observation, collaboration, knowledge, serendipity, methodical, alternative viewpoints, trial & error, adaptation and visualization.

It is not a ‘How to Draw’ book, nor do you need to possess any drawing or art ability yourself in order to do the exercises. What it will do is show how the visual, semantic process of drawing is essential to our progress and a language in its own right, not a gift for the talented few.

‘I liked this book so much I wrote the foreword for it. I think it's an essential read for any science teacher or lecturer - and contains practical exercises too.'
