This website is a practical, no-nonsense guide to teaching art from an ex-art teacher with twenty years experience as an ex-Head of Art in a Specialist Arts Secondary school and a Middle School teacher. My department was rated good to outstanding by Ofsted several times and my GCSE results were consistently above 80% A*-C. I hope the fact that I’m also an Advanced Skills Teacher and a practitioner with experience at Primary, Secondary and post-16 levels of education helps to qualify my advice. Also strengthening my case is the fact that I’ve taught in some very deprived areas of the North and some very privileged schools too, I've served on the professional development board of the National Society for Education in Art & Design NSEAD and I was a member of the DfE Expert Advisory Group for Art and Design. In addition to this I was a member of the NSEAD Curriculum Writing Group that wrote the curriculum competencies, more formally called the: 'Framework for Progression, Planning for Learning, Assessment, Recording and Reporting 2014.’ I’m currently a freelance art consultant and I lead teacher training for a range of major training companies. I've worked for the Specialist Schools Trust, Bath Spa University, the Hepworth Gallery and Warwick University and have spoken at the InSEA congress at Canterbury University. So I hope this qualifies me as someone who is worth listening to and helps make my site worth reading.

Store The store section of my site requires you to give personal information so you can buy digital files. This is done through a commercial third party 'Digital Sellz' who are an official PayPal partner. I can safely say that they provide an excellent service and I've had no reports of their site being compromised, please inform me if you know otherwise.
PAYMENT: DigitalSellz is an official PayPal Partner. Paypal is a trusted, safe, buying environment with free Buyer Protection that allows you to pay for your goods using a variety of methods such as credit or debit card. You DO NOT have to register with PayPal to buy anything, you can just use your card through the Paypal store if you like.
School orders: I am also happy to accept a school order, which can be done via email. Just send me an order number from an official school email address and I'll send you a disc with the information on it. Pay nothing up front.
Discs: I'll happily send you any files on disc through the post. Just send me an order via email with your address on it and I'll invoice you. Pay nothing up front.
Cookies, cookies everywhere, they get in your teeth they get in your hair! A cookie is a piece of information, like a tag, that's stored on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit a website. It can help identify your device – like your PC or mobile phone – whenever you visit that website. Since I built it myself, the site isn't clever enough to track anything much, so relax in the knowledge that I'm not spying on you, stealing your identity or trying to overthrow the world. I might be evil, but I haven't mastered the genius bit yet. You can alter your browser settings to block cookies on this site and it won't make a damn bit of difference to the functionality of the site, except to the 'comments' box and I'm guessing you won't want to make comments if you are so private. The Facebook and social media button have cookies embedded too, but they are nothing to do with me I don't collect any data from them, they are a function of the sharing button itself.
Your Privacy Your activity on this site is monitored via Google Ads and my web server. What this does is to monitor how long you are on the site, which pages you visit etc. so that I can optimise the commercial aspect of the site, place the best ads, get rid of unwanted content and put the right stuff on it that people are looking for. Your privacy is respected, I don't collect your data, I haven't got a clue who you are or where your computer is, simply which country you live in, which pages you visited and and how long you were on them.
Subscribing to my email list: If you decide to sign up to my emailing list I may send you discount codes, promos or news but I don't spam people or flood them with rubbish. The only data I will keep is your email address and your name. Any emails I send will have an unsubscribe button anyway, so just hit unsubscribe and your email address will be deleted.

No Girls Allowed - Get those Boys really motivated and achieving in lessons! I spent many years teaching groups of very disaffected, disadvantaged boys and this session gets to the heart of why boys struggle to achieve, why they lose interest and mess around. It doesn't have to be a year on year battle to get them to work, you need to develop strategies that allow them to learn in the way that suits them and yet still gets results. Independent Learning, metacognition and the Art of Questions - If you truly want to create the very best learners then you need to understand metacognition, self-directed learning and develop a questioning model that really engages all pupils. Not just for high ability students, I can show you how to implement these techniques across a range of abilities. This session isn't just 'pie-in-the-sky' philosophy taken from a text book, I've developed and tried these strategies in real classroom practice. I know what works! I offer a friendly, professional art consultancy service to schools around the world, from early years right through to post-16 and advanced art. I've delivered training courses for leading UK Training providers and art galleries. My consultancy work has taken me to local education authorities and schools from Kent to Newcastle, Italy, Canada and Bermuda and I am a registered NSEAD consultant.
